This was a letter to our Pastor informing him of our March 2006 Events:
On Mother's Day 2005 our 25 year old daughter came to the service and stood asking the Sagemont Family to pray for her and her husband of 5 years to be given a child. All year long, we've been expecting to hear any time that God honored the prayers of the faithful. Then, March came and David's illness and lengthy recovery. Easter Weekend, LeJoy and Larry came to our house and gave us an Easter Basket with "sugar babies" "junior mints", etc.....in the basket and we then knew, we were going to be grandparents for the first time and God had honored the prayers of Sagemont members and God honored our lives in giving David a second chance to see his first grandchild.

Well, there's more....on April 11th, LeJoy came to tell us that we were not having a grandbaby....that we were having GRANDBABIES....there are at least 2 babies in her womb. They were only 7 weeks old at the time. Of course, we again give Praise to God for this blessed event coming forth in our lives. The due date is Dec. 2006, but, the Dr. tells us twin usually come early.
All in all - 2006 has been quite a year for the David Davis family. Tonight we celebrate our 3rd child's graduation from Pearland High School. Again, I'm reminded that Dad almost missed this important event and am giving God the praise.
Thanking our Church for all the gifts of prayer this year,
Libby Davis

MARCH MADNESS
Not NCAA "March Madness", the Davis Family's "March Madness"! On March 4th our lives were turned upside down with the near death of our husband and dad, David Davis. Bacterial Meningitis was the bug that almost took our strong one into eternity.
God was gracious and spared David's life, he was on life support until March 8th, in ICU until March 12th and came home March 15th for a lengthy recovery. The Doctors were scratching their heads at the fact that David lived through this illness as he became very ill, very fast, nevertheless 12 days later he was able to leave the hospital. Doctors and nurses called him "Miracle Man" and medical students were coming by in groups to view the classic case of Bacterial Meningitis and his purple spots. The Critical Care Doctor told David he had a "strong constitution" and that brought him through this illness.
Recovery is going well, David came home on a walker.....can you imagine Dr. D on a walker? He has ditched the walker, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy were on the discharge papers and the evaluations revealed he did not need either therapy! The Doctors sent him home on three medications and all three have now been discontinued.
Our Oklahoma family members did not want to tell us a 13 year old cheerleader and 44 year old man died in Oklahoma a few days before David got sick.
Recent Bacterial Meningitis Deaths:
- On March 8th a 23 year old young man died South Dakota.
- Last three months in Brooklyn, New York, four people have died.
- Two 1st grade girls died, one in Massachusetts and one in Ohio.
- March 15th an 18 year old young man died in Iowa.
- On March 24th, we received news of a Oklahoma State University student who is clinging to life with the disease, she's on dialysis and in critical condition. Please remember this young girl and other families that have not been as fortunate in the month of March 2006 from Bacterial Meningitis:
In March, God spared our husband and dad and we are truly thankful to God for this miracle of life.
How can we say "Thanks" to our community? Prayers, Prayers and more Prayers are what we believe brought David through this ordeal. ICU waiting room visits and phone calls were of great comfort for our family as well as families helping with our young teenage daughter who needed her friends to get through this time.
Cards from Sports Clubs, Coaches, High School teams, friends, neighbors have really encouraged David, he reads each one. Your sense of humor has cheered David and he even got a card from a friend's dog!
Flowers, Plants, Meals, snacks in the waiting room, cash for incidentals & food at the Hospital Cafe and the expensive parking garages were all provided by you, our community.
We truly feel the love of the Pearland - Friendswood Communities. Our entire birth family is in Oklahoma ~ but, our Texas family is YOU. Your love has sustained our family through this March Madness. Please continue to remember David in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from this ravaging disease.
Thank you Reporter News Staff for your support at this time, we are thankful for your willingness to pitch in and do whatever it takes to get the Sports written weekly. We are sure that Dr. D will share his thoughts and appreciation for his second chance at life soon.
March will end this week and along with it will be the "madness" of the month for the Davis family, we are looking toward an "Awesome April".
Libby Davis
