IKE Hits Galveston after Midnight ~ Sept. 13th

Fence Damage on all Sides!

Repairs began the next
weekend when we returned.
Larry (LeJoy's husband) is building the new fence.

Hurricane IKE hit Galveston and came up through toward Houston and went to the east of Pearland. We got the back side of the storm they say and not the dirty side of the storm. We were very fortunate as we only lost a few shingles, about 1/2 of the fence in back yard! That's all! We are so very fortunate and thank God that the neighbor's fence fell away from our driveway which held 4 cars left at home during the evacuation! No car damage at all.

The hardest part was the lost of power at the house, we lost all the food in the freezer in the garage and in our fridge inside the house. But, it was time to clean out the freezer anyway and now it looks like a brand new one! We got it over 20 years ago and it's a Montgomery Ward Brand that we bought second hand! So, it's a good freezer!

We had been looking at refrigerators before the storm, so, soon we will have one delivered and fill it up with all the salad dressings, etc. that we like to have on hand as we threw all that out. David packed up food to take with him and Lincoln as they evacuated to Wharton, TX....only 60 miles from here, but, out the major storm path.

David and Lincoln traveled back during the daylight hours to the house for 3 days to check on the dogs, bring ice for the freezer meat, and was able to always get gas there in Wharton. Wal Mart was open there as well, so David was a happy camper. Oh, by the way, they stayed at the TeePee Motel in Wharton....I don't know if they have a website but the pictures are hilarious....it's really a teepee room! Made from cement thankfully as I thought it might not be as secure as our house if the hurricane headed toward them!

We all converged from Oklahoma and Wharton on Monday, Sept. 15th to come back to the house and start the cleanup. David and Lincoln had @ 15 bags of trash from our yard.....our neighbor's tree limbs. Our trees held up very well....which not being trimmed in years shocked me! Linc & David did a great job cleaning up before we got here. They uprighted the metal & canvas cabana that I thought might have flown into the neighborhood lake, it just flipped over in the yard.

Landon, Lexis and I brought a 6000 watt generator back with us to start the long wait for electricity.....we thought! Actually, power came on Monday evening about 9:30 p.m. so we were fortunate in that as our little town is 70% without power as I write this and it's been over a week now.

Larry and LeJoy with twins evacuated to Fort Worth to Larry's brother's apartment and they came home Sunday, the 14th. They still don't have power in LaPorte and they could be without power until Oct. 4th is what we heard today. LeJoy and the twins are staying at our house since we have power and it's easier on Kayla's asthma to have air conditioning 24/7.

I will post pictures soon of the yard & the twins when I can get the pictures off my camera.

Thanks for prayers ~ the Davis Family survived the storm of the century and now they say it won't happen again for another 25 years! Yeah Right!
